It turns out that the answer to your question is state specific. If you review some online websites you get varied information... SO... I WANT YOU TO CALL THG ELOCAL PLUMBING INSPCTOR IN YOUR AREA AND ASK HIM THIS QUESTION. You can tell him it is a question someone asked online and your were JUST WONDERING ;) ;) if you don't want to tell him you are working on anything.

Fact is, you will get 5 different answers to this question online here... SO... make the call (call building department and ask for plumbing inspector)... Let me know what they say in your area (what state are you in?)... Mark

Your best bet is to follow the instruction the glue manufacturer provides like Oatey. ABS no primer, everything else gets primed. The inspectors pretty much demand purple primer so they can see that you really did prime. Mark is right about codes varying but the makers pretty much have control of their products and know how they work best. If you scuff both surfaces with extra fine emery you will get a great bond, just might no be code in you area. PS this is answer #2 so we have room for 3 more guys to jump in.
