Where is this sensor located at I know somewhere in the rear of the vehicle!! Maybe a diagram will help

What problems are you having with your vehicle? Did someone already diagnose it and determine what the problem is?

I hope someone can find an answer to this because I have searched for the past hour and cannot find you any diagram on this. I am sorry I was trying.

Each wheel has its own ABS sensor and toothed sensor ring. Look for the wire going to each sensor, which is black. Use a Torx E8 wrench to remove. Clean sensors with a spritzled rag, not compressed air.

I'm still wondering why they're looking for this sensor to begin with...

The rear ABS sensor on the 2004 Ford Explorer is located in the rear differntial. My wife's Explorer had the ABS light come on and I took it to a local shop that checked the code. The code for a failed rear ABS sensor actually comes back as 2 codes; one for the right rear and one for the left rear. Per the shop owner, the sensor is located on top of the rear differntial and can be hard to get to. The 2004 Explorer has only 3 ABS sensors; 2 for the front and 1 for the rear. I have yet to get under the vehicle to see if this is something I can do or to allow my mechanic to replace.

VSS failure, on Ford products with the VSS in the differential, will often throw ABS, VSS codes, transmission, and engine codes. It can appear that the vehicle is totally falling apart. Replace the VSS and use a code reader/scan tool to reset the PCM.

I saw this on a Ford pickup that hobbled back to Texas from Arkansas several weeks ago. It wouldn't go over 30 mph. Replacing the VSS in the differential solved all the problems.

04 Explorer DOES have 4, speed sensors. Not the one on the differential. Check with Advance or Autozone.

I have a ford explorer with codes B2900, C1145, C1155. I had the ABS ECU replaced ($800). I am still getting the C1145, C1155, C2770, and C1236 codes. What do you think is the problem? Should I just replace the sensors or the whole sensor system (wires and all).

Some rear abs sensor also have to to with the wheel speed sensor so you might look in to that. They are linked on 4 wheel drive explorers if the wheel speed sensor goes it puts out an abs light 2 wheel drive explorers have abs sensors in all 4 wheels 4x4 explorers only have 3. two in the front and one in the rear diff.
