I'm just wondering if you could give me some advice as to what to do...
When I turn on the cold water tap (mains pressure water) in the bathroom upstairs, water comes out normally until I turn it a bit more until water should be coming out fast, it then slows down then I hear banging and the water only chugs out. Any hints as to what's wrong?

I think that it might be clogged but I'm no expert try to snake it out.

You either have a loose washer in the cold water valve or an obstruction. Turn off water at the stop valve underneath the sink, remove the cold water handle and then remove the stem. Check that the screw holding the washer is tight. Don't just look at it, take a screwdriver and tighten it if you can. Might want to replace the washer while you have it out. While you have the stem out, put a cloth over the stem opening and turn on the water slightly at the stop valve and flush the valve. You may have an obstruction (my favorite thing to blame is solder in the pipes that gets lodged in the valve). If you have an obstruction you may or may not be able to flush it out.
It sounds like you have a loose washer.

Hey, I undid the tap, but there is no washer to tighten, just one of the washers that sit inside the tap.

Good morning Dan,

I need a little information. Is this a bath/shower faucet or a lavatory faucet?
Is it one handle or two knobs? What's the brand name of the faucet? How old is it? Back to you Dan. Tom

Could you elaborate on that.

How about looking at the hot side and see if it's the same.
