Hello, If someone can help me understand what is meant by reverse polarity in an outlet in my house? I'am selling my house and the inspector want an outlets reverse polarity fixed. Where do I start?:confused:

Wires are crossed lol...
Example would be a fan motor per say. Hook the wires up one way the fan turns right, REVERSE the wires and the fan motor turns left
But in your case I believe it means that the hot and neutral are reversed. SAFETY ~~~ I think is problaby why he told you to fix this.

Check to see if the black wire goes to the brass screw and the white wire goes to the silver looking screw. The tester, available at hardware stores, is very cheap.

Kiss is correct, correcting should give proper results with tester.
MR500 is correct in reversing a DC motor, you reverse polarity.
In AC voltage, reversing polarity on motor it will continue to rotate same direction.
