I know it used to be just bedrooms, but has that changed with the 2008 code? Also, I remember that I use to have to run individual circuits to each bedroom, each with its own neutral. Is that still the case or have they come out with something new that allows two AFCI circuits to use the same neutral?

There are some two-pole AFCIs. I know Cutler makes them in their BR series.

Where are they required? What code cycle do you follow??

Just because there is a new NEC cycle does NOT mean every place adopts it in it's entirety. Even those that do adopt it often have amendments.

Code Cycle?? I assumed that everyone on this forum followed the 2008 NEC code that went into effect January, 08... what planet do you do electrical work on? :)

Obviously not the same one as you. :p

Yes, code cycle. Why would you assume this.

I guess you don't get around. EVERY place is different. Some places are still under the 1999 NEC.
NY follows two different electric codes. As of 1/1/08 it follows it's resi code which is based on the 2002, and for commercial it is now under the 2005 NEC.

Bedrooms, last I knew.1999 NEC - Bedroom receptacles
2002 NEC - ALL bedroom outlets; including receptacles, lighting and smoke detectors
2005 NEC - Same as 2002
2008 NEC - MOST branch circuits supplying outlets (receptacle, lighting, smokes, etc) in MOST habitable rooms of the house. Rooms like the kitchen, garage, etc, are exempt.

WHAT CODE CYCLE ARE YOU UNDER?
