I am 53 and have a felony for third offense DUI. I'm female and currently living off my sone and daughter-in-law (bless their hearts). I've been pounding the pavement and been online filling out apps. but to no avail. I have 2 yrs. College and a high school diploma. I've always worked waitress, cashier, bartender, etc. and I no longer can do this kind of work because of years on my feet on cement floors, have really messed up my feet. What can I do? I seriously think it's my age and record that's hindering my job search. Any suggestions?

Most probably. They could feel that if you got caught with three DUI's that possibly you would come to work drunk.
Don't know what you can do.
What does your doctor say. Does he think you are capable of working with your feet problem.

This happened in 2004 and I have been sober and VERY ACTIVE IN AA every sense. I put this on the apps too and still nothing.

What type of work are you applying for?
What state do you live in?

I am 53 too and it took me a few years to find a job but I didn't look super hard either.
I think my problem was age and bad credit. Many places won't hire you with bad credit and
Mine isn't anything like most people's with bad credit.

I currently live in Georgia, but this all happened in Michigan. However, my record follows me.
I too have bad credit and I know this hinders some jobs.
I love cashier work and have hit every Dept. store in this town. I haven't reverted to fast food yet and dreading it, but may have to, if nothing else then to rebuild my self-worth.

Thanks for all this advice and for listening.

I am working in the cafeteria of a university. It is really nice. They have a lot of benefits and you can go to school at a discount. Nice thing too is you get school days off and if they don't need you for the summer or spring break you get paid
Unemployment.
You don't have to limit yourself to fast food or even restaurants in the food field. You could also apply at any where that serves food-
Office buildings, cafeterias, nursing homes, hospitals, grocery store snack shops, events.

I never thought of them. Thanks. Are you a "Pink Floyd" fan also? I see it says "darkside of the moon, PA" Pink Floyd is my ultimate favorite of all bands.
Anyway, thanks for everything.

Pink Floyd is all right but I never really listen to him unless somebody else is.
I like too wide of a variety of music that I rarely listen to just one group.
I like Journey about the best.

I have dark side of moon because I live in the *'hood part* of Moon which is a really nice
Township --other than the part I am in.

Often if a person is working, any work, they can seem like a better employee to the other company. Also I don't know where in Georgia, but for the Summer, places like Six Flags, Turner Field and white water are excellent places to work nad start a new job reference.

I'm in Rome and of course, don't drive. My license is up for review 9/2009.
