Hello

I hope someone can help. My partner and I are currently going through a divorce. We have a joint property. I am not living in the propery but he has trasfered the bills solely into my name and the bills are mounting up, is there anything I can do as I can prove that I am not living there?

If they are in your name, turn them off. Then your partner will have to put them in his name to turn them back on.

It's up to the individual utility companies. If he is living there, by all means turn them off. If he is not living there I wouldn't do that because you could be stuck with damage from broken pipes and so forth.

Your divorce settlement should address the inequity of the utility bills as well as how he managed to do this - you can't just switch bills over (are we only talking utility bills?) into someone else's name without their consent. He could change the address to your address but I don't know how he handled the name change.

Your divorce attorney should be all over this.
