Yes, yet again, another first-timer to US Taxes.

:(

I browsed this forum but couldn't find concrete answer and between NY State and Tax consultants I have 3 different answers!!

Please help me to determine my NY State residency status for Tax purposes.

1) I have a H4 (married to a H1-b visa holder), I'm unemployed, no income and no SSN.
2) Although I was granted my H4 visa only in December , I was married in July. And I live in NYC since.
3) From the actual date (on my I-94) I entered US I have been in NY more than 183 days.
4) I have not lived in the US before.
5) We are filing federal taxes jointly. (with W7 for tax ID).

Questions:
What is my residency status for NY state - Resident, Nonresident or part time resident?
What forms I need to fill?
Do I enter “NRA” instead of my SSN?

Regards
Ellen

You are a part-year resident of NY state.

File Form IT-203.

You must submit your SSN.
