I was with someone for almost 5 years. While we were engaged and looking for houses together, I found him signed up on singles' sites. He looked me in the eye and swore he would never do something like that; I chose to believe him. A month later, I found out that it was actually him and that he had contacted a few women and told them he was single. I tried to make it work for another year and realized I just couldn't trust him.

So then after I broke up with him, he went around telling everyone that I ended our relationship "without any reason." I also learned afterwards that while we were engaged, he also tried to kiss my younger sister; he denies ever doing it. And here's the funny part: his wife believes everything that he tells her! :D

What I just can't seem to figure out in my mind is: why do people need to lie? If you're that bad of a person, then don't bring it up to begin with. But why do you try and turn it around and make me out to be the bad guy?

I used to ask that question all the time... then I heard an answer that satisfied that question for me. The answer came from a psychologist or psychiatrist and he said that "people lie to fulfill their emotional needs". This made sense to me. The person who says they are so much more than they actually are lies because emotionally they really need to believe they are the person they claim to be. If that is why people lie than I would guess your guy lied because emotionally he needs to be the guy with lots and lots of females who want him. Why did he go around and tell lies about you? Maybe it wasn't so much about bad talking you as making himself look good because that is his emotional need.
I have found that once you realize a person lies... you sort of find out that they lied about all kinds of things, things that didn't even matter. I think someone is either a liar or not a liar. Some people don't lie and take pride in not lying and then some are lying if they are talking. Guess it becomes a habit after awhile.
Anyway I think that is why people lie.

Its making him look like the good guy now and he does no wrong!! But someone will bring him down to his level one day!
