Hi my grandmothers owns a house on a property, next to the property is another dwelling that I live in, the peoblem is over forty years ago my grandmother was friends with the guy who owned the land that I live on now, but since then it has been sold a few times, now I am worried about getting kicked off the land does anyone the laws in nj about this type of situation.she still lives next door. We are worried about losing our house, please help ty.

Every state ( if you are in the US) has their own rules on adverse posseession, **taking land away from the legal owner.

Do they know you are living there, do you pay rent, do you share crop. How many years have you been living there.

We have lived here 46 yrs we do not share crops and have never paid rent and yes they do know we live here.we only live 60 ft off the highway so the dwelling is very easily seen from a major highway.we have a pool a pump house and have done renovations. On this dwelling. But the town is growing and now the land is more valuable so we are afraid the guy who owns the property will now kick us off.
