I have had my goldfish for about 6 years but for the past month he has not been able to get off the bottom of the tank he isn't eating anything and is just starving to death. Does anybody no of a painless way of killing my goldfish as I have read about various methods and don't like the sound of them. Is there anything I can put in the tank that will finish the poor fella off or do I just have to wait until he dies of natural causes?

I would not suggest poisoning (adding chemicals or whatever) to the tank, as death by poisoning is supposedly very painful, I honestly would just let him pass naturally, that's what I did with my fish when their times came.

Wow 6 years ols os really old! Don't you just think its time is over and that's its life span for example hamsters life span is only 2-3 years!

Have you tried treating with any medications?

They say goldfish can live around 10 years. It might be its time, or it might be sick. If you've introduced any new fish to the tank recently, it may be a disease of some sort, which you can treat with antibiotics. But if he's not eating, my experience has shown me that the outlook is not good. Best of luck!

Maybe try changing the water temperature to a warmer one, I hate to think of killing an animal, but that might just do it.

I have a huge goldfish that just lays at the bottom of my tank he does that off and on. I thought maybe he was just tired of swimming around cause he was so big... lol. He is OK, still OK to this day... just lazy... I feed him worms on occasion and he really likes that. He's been like that for 2 years. Check your ph make sure it's not to acidic. Goldfish are very dirty fishies and need frequent water changes.

PS... GOLDFISH LIKE COLD WATER. If you make the water warmer it will get cloudy and they will think is spring time and time to mate.

I bought a fish and from day one it wasn't eating. I figured it might have some disease but I didn't want to leave it in the tank because I thought if it did have a disease I didn't want my other fish(golden dojo loach that I've had for about a year) to catch the disease. But I didn't want to flush it down the toilet either. So my mom took it and put it in a pond not to far away from our house.

I agree with rex if you don't have the heart to watch it. Then I would definitely find a pond for him to live his little fishie days out in. He will thank you.
