Check air filter.. and main relay (fuel pump relay). Depends on your car make.. Hard to guess without more details.

It sounds like you may have a worn throttle position sensor or perhaps a weak coil.
You could also have a Mass Air Flow Meter that is corroded or corrupted, and it could be giving incorrect information to the ECM.
Pinpoipnt diagnosis will narrow this list.

Could be the TPS or also a weak fuel pump... the car may not be getting sufficient fuel which is why it's cutting out when they're stepping on the accelerator

Try to read the error code (check this site : http://www.wallpaperama.com/forums/nissan-altima-obdii-trouble-codes-dtc-troubleshooting-list-guide-t425.html)... The "check Engine" Light is normal ?
=*** Check the spark plugs (check this site: Engine Dies +Radiator Leaks - Automotive Message Forums (http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic301693.htm) )
=*** Could be more fuel is being injected (more than necessary)
Also check this link : 94 Altima wont start - Automotive Message Forums (http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic316018.htm)
=** Could be the O2 sensor.. try this link altima 01 starting problem - Automotive Message Forums (http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic316349.htm)

Good luck.
