View Full Version : Maytag Performa Washer(35-5369) Noisy When Washing/Spinning

I have a Maytag Performa - I'm unsure of the model number but under the lid it says it is part # 35-5369. When it's agitating and spinning it makes a noise that sounds like a playing card against the spokes of a spinning bicycle wheel. It continues to wash and spin, but the sound is is getting louder. I've stopped using the washer for fear of causing more damage to whatever it is.

A friend said it sounded like the belt might be shredding and about to break and the sound is that of the shredded rubber hitting against the metal.

Guidance and suggestions are very much appreciated! :)

It sounds like it could be the Pump. The belt is also a possibility. Watch and listen to this video, does it sound like your problem? If so, this was a bad pump. Once replaced, the user reported all was good again.

Here is a great way to tell if it is in fact the pump:

Tilt the machine back to give yourself access to the belt. Remove the belt (the motor will slide over on its own, to facilitate the belt's removal). Turn the pump pulley (that's the smaller pulley to the right of the larger transmission pulley). If you hear a grinding noise, the pump should be replaced.
