I have an HP Media center PC; OS is Vista; cable internet. After the computer goes into sleep mode and then wakes up I do not have an internet connection. Everything else works fine. I have to restart the computer to restore internet. I have been unable to find any settings that would explain this.

This should be the correct repair for this problem
The default gateway setting is lost when you wake a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933872)

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, they did not resolve the problem. The hotfix seemed to address my problem perfectly. It just didn't work.
Additional info, if it helps. My computer is a desktop on a wired connection. Is sleep applicable to this setup?

Sometime under the Network Card Properties --> Power Management
There are checkboxes to "Allow computer to turn off this device"
Make sure it is unchecked.

When the computer wakes up instead of rebooting it right click on the network connection and choose Repair. Does that fix the issue? It's not a solution, but it will help the troubleshooting process to know.

Hello people,
I had a problem with a hp vista laptop. No internet connection after sleep, said something about identifying and local only. Found a tip on some page, cannot remember where but: check your startup settings. Write msconfig + enter the command prompt. Go to startup and look for a "cognizance identity and access management" or something that looks similar.
I had switched it off, trying to speed up my laptop startup and it gave me trouble with my wireless internet after sleep mode.
I know this answer comes a bit late but I had the problem for a couple of years before I figured it out.
Hope it helps someone.
