I have just found out that I am the father of a one and a half year old little girl. It took a while for my Ex. To get a hold of me because I had moved about two years back to a different town. She knew then she was pragnet but did not tell me. Any how she is running into hard times and needs help, I have signed an acknowledgement of paternity form and now we are wondering how to get me on the birth certificate and also how to change her last name to mine. My daughter is going to come stay with me for a undecided amount of time and my ex. And I both agree it is the right thing to do. Any advice would help, thanks.

First thing first get a lawyer. He/She will then give you what paper work needs to be filed and you can get a court date made. The judge is the only one that can order for her birth certificate and last name to be changed. It is great that you are that willing to help out! Just to let you know, the judge will probably also order a series of visits with the child before she can just move in with you in order for her to adjust to you so it won't be as stressful on her. Good luck and best wishes!

Yes get it all in writing and get it all before the judge.

First get a DNA test to be sure ( sorrry but sounds like this was happening at a bad time.) and you petition the court to have you added to the birth certificate. Then you get joint or some form of legal custody.
