Ok, so here is the story.
I have been working out and dieting for two months now and only lost 3 pounds.
What's the deal? Is there anything I can do to speed up this process?

I know how to diet, and am. I have been for the passed two months. As well as vigorously working out six days a week.
What I want to know is why I have not lost any weight this month.
Greg Quinn
Feb 23, 2008, 02:01 AM
If you are counting calories and working out that much I couldn't imagine a better way to lose weight. I know my sister would lose pounds one month, sit at another and then drop a noticeable amount later.
At least you are losing weight the right way, I've watched that show "the biggest loser" and I've seen a few of these people starve, exercise and some months come out having lost only 5lbs.
I just now built a home gym and know what it takes to keep going. I would imagine you are frustrated not getting the results you want as fast as you would like. I don't think anyone can give you an idea upgrade here, you are doing more work than any dieter I've known. Guaranteed, if you keep it up you're body will simply have no choice but to reflect the energy you are putting into it.

As a man, I know that the way to lose weight will be different if you are a woman. At least that is my understanding of it. I once lost over 20 pounds in about a month-and-a-half. But, that was not a good weight loss. I did it primarily though diet. I did not feel good after losing the weight so fast.
I went from about 250 pounds to my high school weight of 183 pounds in a year-and-a-half time. I am still maintaining it. Are you interested in how I did that? Just a thought...

I'm 165. My goal weight is 120. And I'm consuming tons of fruit and veggies, with some baked chicken in there. Weight control oatmeal or healthy choice ceral in the morning. Some carrot sticks and celery and a water bottle for lunch. Baked chicken and spinach or baked potato for dinner.

Okay. Thanks for letting me know what you are eating as well as how much. You do want to know how I did it, correct? The way that I did it might not be the way that would work the best for everyone, just so you understand, okay? I don't eat very much everyday, and I'm also considerably older than you.

Age probably doesn't have much to do with it as far as this is concerned with me and you. However, I am more than twice your age. But, as far as how I feel, I might as well be your age.
This is part of what I did. Number one, don't buy any food that is over four grams of fat content. That is one thing that I did.
Do you like Chinese food?
ChihuahuaMomma

I don't buy pre-packaged food unless it's like cereal or oatmeal or something like that.

Hiya have you considered that you are probably losing fat but putting on muscle? Muscle weighs more than fat so someties when people start exercising they put on weight. Keep going though because muscle is handy for burning calories so in the long run gaining muscle will help you lose more fat and ultimately weight.
Make sure you are drinking enough water, to prevent you from retaining it. If you are exercising more than you used to you will require more fluids.
Clough

Ok, so you don't like Chinese food. Are you adding anything to the baked chicken or potato? It's also possible that you are eating too much, even though it might be healthy food. Like I have stated before, I don't eat very much everyday.
Also, the kind of workouts that you are doing could be making difference as to how much weight you are losing. When I was actively losing a lot of weight, I was also doing a lot of walking as well as riding a bicycle a lot. So, I would assume that working my legs had something to do with the weight loss.
I don't really know the ins and outs of it or any technical/health language for it. I just know what I did and the results that I obtained. I also was eating a lot of fresh vegetables and rice. Ate almost no cereal and definitely no things that had a lot of sugar in them. No candy or ice cream... (Well, almost no candy or ice cream... )

Chi momma. Not getting enough sleep will interfere with weight loss Or at least that is what I have heard experts say. Also if you are not eating enough food your body will not burn as many calories because it will think you are starving. I also heard a doc, say when there is a drastic reduction in calories that the body can slow down because it is so used to eating a certain amount and it looses to many calories at one time.

I'm not losing any inches though... and muscle is leaner than fat, so I should be seeing the inches melt away, yes? UGH, this is just so frustrating. I will definitely keep going. I love working out now. And I'm going so hard to see where the result is.

I think that after losing just ten pound or even under that amount that you should start to notice a visual as well as feel a difference. It does just take time. If you lose the weight too fast, then you might not feel very good! I don't remember if I told you this earlier on in this thread, but if I didn't, here it is again. I once lost over 20 pounds in a month and a half. But, the result was that I didn't feel good. Losing the weight that I have, gradually over an extended period, I can say that I feel great!

I probably did not feel good because in order to lose the weight, I was not eating enough. So, I was starving my body and it was rebelling.
If I gain or lose weight, I can notice differences right away because of how my pants fit around my waist. Around my waist seems to the main place where I lose or gain weight. I think that it does depend on where off your body you have lost the weight in order for you to really notice any changes taking place.

1st If you need to lose weight you need to tell us what your routine is while working out? I.E. Walking, running, weight lifting and so on...
2nd I have seen what you have been eating and would like to know more on what your eating like quantity?
3rd have you tried swimming. Swimming works all musical groups.
Now... I am not trying to be out of line but all this answers need to be answered before people start helping you out. It takes time to loss weight. Musical does weigh more then fat but if you are working out and you only lost 6 pounds then it would be hard to notice changes. Have you tried running every 2nd day. And when I mean run I mean, 5 to 10 km, as well run not a light jog. Another good add on to your eating diet would be frozen fruit it burns calories fast. Kind of off subject, but not really... I enjoy doing quite a few leg presses at the gym. I was told that this could make my hips look wider...

Now, I am no expert here about this sort of thing. I only know what I have experienced with trying to lose weight. But, I would think that working out with weights might tend to help a person to gain weight some. Don't you think?. I mean, working out with weights for me is a way to gain muscle mass. I know that there are other exercises that a person could do whereby it wouldn't be so much in doing them to gain muscle mass but to burn off the calories.

HI ChihuahuaMomma,
Cute name by the way. Well there are certainly other ways to loose the weight and drop the pounds more quickly. Trust me, and no you do not have to starve or become balimic or anything like that. I am 28 and I have 2 kids, I gained so much weight both times I had my kids, girl I was almost 200lbs. I am now 125lbs and I have been able to keep it off for the past 4 years. What I did was see a doctor where I live who is a weight loss specialist. He gave me some diet pills that help to control my hunger, and B12 injections. I have been doing this on and off for the past 4 years to maintain my weight. I also started taking fiber pills to help my digestive system and vitamins on a daily basis. The numer one thing is that you have to learn how to cut you calories dramatically and start choosing the right foods, when you eat. Also exercising is the also the key. I have an eliptical machine at home and I jump on it faithfully on a daily basis. Also I eat a small little something during my break at work and spend my lunch time walking around my hospital building. You will only not loose weight if you are taking in to many calories on a daily basis. This worked for me but every one is different. I know that this is not the most healthy way to loose the weight but hey it works and that is all that really mattered to me. I was not going to be 200lbs. I hope this helps to answer you question. If you want to know the name of the diet pills I take let me know that way you can look them up for yourself and decide weather or not that is something you would want to do. :)

Muscle and fat do not weigh the same. If you lose the fat and gain muscle, then chances are you will weigh more. Although, I'm not sure how long it takes to gain muscle as compared to losing fat. Just my reasoning on it...

Hi, I lost weight and got healthier/fitter eating more protein and reducing carbs and walking 30-45 minutes a day. I bought some hand weights and walked with these too as I got fitter.
I would have protein with every meal, and would start the meal with a couple spoons of the protein first, (it tricks the brain into thinking you are not as hungry so you don't eat as much). Salads and mostly green colored vegetable you can eat up to four cups with each meal. (except peas, potato needs to be limited) On your salad and vegies you can drizzle a dressing made from olive oil, apple cider vinegar (optional wholegrain mustard).
Try and drink 2 litres of water a day, minimum, limit tea and coffee to one cup per day(very hard for me to do) rule of thumb, for every cup of coffee/tea you should have two cups of water.
If you feel like something sweet have it, don't deny yourself, but all in moderation. If you drink alcohol you might need to reduce this to one a night with dinner.
Good luck

I did mean muscle. Sorry obout that.
If you are having a daily intake of 1,200 calories it's fine.
If you won't to stay healthy all you have to do is watch what you eat in a run of a day. Doing exercising every day well help you out dramatically. If you can't swim that is fine. But even staying in the shallow end and trying to swim will still share the same purpose. To stay in shape you really don't have to add strength training with your cardio. Running every day burns allot of calories. How's this...
Monday to Friday eat fruit every morning for breakfast
For lunch you can have a verity of foods but try to stay away from fatty foods.
Supper have your normal meal like, steak is a great one as well is chicken cooked in the oven not deep fried like KFC.
If you find yourself hungry in the run of the day try low fat bars found at your local grocery store. Keep in mind you still need to do your cardio work out. If you are doing cardio every day like you posted just remember that you get what you put into it. Try to burn yourself out every 5 to 10 minutes.
If you are so worried about staying healthy you are already on the right track. All you have to do is stay with it.
I have read all your posts as well as all the people that added to your post. I will like to add that as much as you may not realize you do sound a bit harsh to peoples suggestions. Keep in mind that we are just trying to see what we can add that you haven't already tried. I am not trying to be a bother.
