What do you do if you think that a company sold your account to two different companies which both companies have garnished your wages, one right after the other for the same amount

No one can garnish your wages without a court judgment.

Do you remember going to court? Do you remember being served notice to go to court?

While this would not be an impossible situation, it would not be very likely that you were sued twice for the same debt?

Perhaps some more detail about your situation would produce better answers.

You had to have been served with papers - what do they say? Are you sure it's the same debt?

Also, generally a garnishment takes the maximum amount from your paycheck. Therefore another creditor couldn't start taking money until the first was paid off.

Sounds like you've been ignoring your creditors and its caught up with you. You need to get copies of the garnishment orders from your employer and then go back to the courts that issued them to see if it's the same debt. You can then file a motion to vacate the second judgement if it is the same debt.
