A Goodman furnace was recently installed in the flat that I rent. The problem is it is going on and off 24/7 and during it's cycle it goes like this: furnace starts up for about 20 seconds, the gas jets ignite for another 20 seconds, then blower turns on and begins to first blow cool air for about 45 seconds, then it begins to get lukewarm and blows like that for approx. 6 minutes, then the gas jets shut off, then the blower keeps blowing for another 2-2 1/2 minutes, the problem being that it is blowing very cool air into my flat, negating any heat that may have been generated by the lukewarm air during the heating cycle. After about 45 seconds the whole cycle repeats itself. And this goes on, like I said, for 24/7. It does not matter what temperature I set the thermostat at (I've tested it at 56 to 70 degrees) it does the same thing. Never really heats and then cools off what it does heat. I took the front panel off and watched the cycle and the ignitor works, the gas jets are like small "jet engines" they are so powerful, the blower is excellent, but where is my heat going, up the chimney? It's not going into my flat. I have put my hand on the heating ducts in the basement going to my registers and they are not even warm enough to heat anything, but the exhaust pipe to the chimney is so hot you could fry and egg on it. I don't know much about furnaces, my landlord refuses to do anything about it. I want to be informed when I call an independent technician (I am not so confident in the installer at this point) to check it out so I can prove to my landlord that there is something wrong. With the furnace going 24/7, my heating bill is astronomical along with electricity from the ignitor going on all the time. Can anyone advise me?

1st a good landlord should want to take care of his renters,2nd if he invested his money into a new furnace he should want it to work right ,if the installer is contacted very soon, before too much time goes by you would think he (the installer) would want to make sure he has repeat business by taking care of your landlord, sounds like maybe a simple need for some adjustments,, maybe the anticipater is out of adjustment in the tstat.

It sounds like your problem is similar to mine. No one has suggested what the cause may be. My furnace will run 24/7 blowing lukewarm air in the house, but never heating it above 62 or 63 degrees.

The duct going to the chimney is just like yours - very hot. My furnace is also a Goodman, and I rent, and my landlord does not believe there is a problem.

Have you gotten any other suggestions?
