I have read several times that fastening furring strips (treated 2x4s) to concrete foundation walls with tapcons or shot driven nails may result in cracks and later leaks. Does anyone have a tried and true method of attaching furring to the foundation wall with some sort of epoxy instead?

Powder Driven nails and other fasteners used to connect wood to concrete (poured, block, etc) are primarily used to keep the material tight until the construction adhesive can set up.

I suppose that you could use epoxy or construction adhesive alone, provided you had some way of bracing the material tight against the concrete.

Or, after you drill the tapcon pilot hole, perhaps you could squirt some caulk into the hole prior to driving the screw in.

These are just my thoughts and what I have done. I haven't had any leaking using tapcons, but, the day is still young.
