:confused: :confused: Someone I know had a home birth and there was no midwife or doctor present... the mother still hasn't gone to the doctor or taken the baby to the doctor (the baby is almost 2 weeks old now)... (I know this is insane, but she is the type of person who doesn't believe in modern medicine or doctors.. she thinks they are all liars.) I am trying to find out what the rules and regulations are in the state of Florida for this.. can she get a birth certificate if there was not a licensed professional present at the time of birth? :confused: :confused:

There is no law in the US that says home births are illegal. As long as the mother is low risk and confident then it is okay. But... and this is a big but... something can happen, infection, to both, complications to the mother after, or the baby. Baby should be checked out by a health professional and it doesn't have to be a doctor. She has no way of proving birth and that is a downside to the situation.

I know this, but from what I have heard, the baby has to be checked out by a doctor or nurse before the child can be issued a birth certificate... and she DOES NOT want this... this is going to be a huge problem in this child's future... right?

Yes, this will be a HUGE problem as the baby won't be issued a social security number without a birth certificate, thus, parents won't be able to claim baby on taxes.

Baby will not be able to enter school without a birth certificate, thus baby won't be able to attend college without a birth certificate.

Baby will not be allowed to enter school without the necessary vaccinations, etc.

So, yes, this will be a huge problem in the future.

At a min I believe they will have to go to the county health department.

I was born at home and my dad delivered me he was the only person there, so its not that weird, but see if you can talk her into a homeopathic doctor they can check the baby out in a unobtrusive way wich she may like better, and since there licensed usually she should be able to apply for a delayed certificate of birth, I got that and an scc card when I was 5

Hi SD1025 you must live in one of the few states that license homeopathic doctors, most states do not license them.
And in those states that do, only a few allow them to deliver babies.
But in the end, you had to go to a licensed doctor to apply for a birth certificate

Eventually yes I did, and they are licensed in my state but I don't go to one my mom does I don't really go for it myself, bad history of strep throat, and you need antibiotics for that. I didn't know it was state to state for homeopathics, I just thought from the sound of the woman she might go for that

The mother contacted the Vital Statics office 3 days after the child was born, they said they couldn't answer her then because they only had 2 known cases of this happening in Florida and they were not sure of the protocol... they had to call her back (a week later) and told her that the child had to be checked out by a licensed professional, either a Doctor of Registed Nurse... she said she didn't want that, and she is not going to get a birth certificate now... I personally think she is hiding something from the state... she is not the best of Mother's and had to take parenting classes about a year ago... she already has 3 kids... this new one makes #4. None of her kids attend public school.. they are suppose to be home schooling... I am not sure... I don't know what to do... I feel bad for the children.:(
