My husband and I have been married for almost 6 years. We haven't had the pleasure of having children of our own. We were addressed by a friend of a friend who has 14 children. She hasn't raised any of them. She didn't have a place for her children. She asked us to take in her 2 year old, for a week or two. We have now had him for 10 months. She would show up now and then on our doorstep to see him. She has not provided any financial support. We have heard nothing from her for the last 60+ days. Is this abandoment in the state of Florida, and would we have a good case if we decide to report this to the State and go to court. (if it matters we have no criminal background, and have taken 30 hour MAPP foster/adoptive parenting classes)

Where is the father of the child, it would be a lot easier if both the mother and father would both sign over their rights.

But this will be very invovled, and you will need an attorney

I do not know who the Father is, but I do know he's not on the Birth Certificate. I know she's not willing to sign over permanecy because she would feel like a bad parent. Weird, I know. But who knows how people like this think...
