When I press the power button the screen turns black then white writing comes on the screen it says enter your pass word or press F1 for set-up or TAB for something else. After I put in the password and press enter the screen goes to another black screen that gives you options to etheir load on safe mode, normal and a few others and I tried all of them but it does not start up. I press enter anyway and it goes to another window that says windows and starts to load then it tuns blank and goes back to the first main screen as if I pressed the power button over again. What do I do?

Read through carefully

A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

A Repair Install will replace files altered by adware and malware, but will not fix an adware, malware problem

How do you perform a reinstallation of Windows XP, sometimes called a repair installation?

Need to have your PC to boot from the CD Rom drive
Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.
When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2.
Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.
Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.
In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.
Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Before you do any of the above make sure you have nt left a disc in the cd/dvdrom , if there is a disc in the drive it will probably try to boot from that , if so remove disc and try to boot up again.

Excuse me! I'm not trying to confuss anyone, I'm trying to help ! This has happened to me when someone left a dvd in the dvdrom which the PC tried to boot from , unfortunately I only found this out afterwards , I'm not saying that this is the same in this case , its just a suggestion!! So don't hassle me. What gives you the right to tell me when and when not to answer posts ? Oh and another thing , it would have been nice of you to ask tracy if her OS is M.E ( yes people still use it ! ) , XP or Vista instead of jumping to conclusions. Any answer's I give on this board are from experience, may not be a lot of it but its all I have , some will think they are experts, but then Google is your friend :)
