This movie was late 70's- early 80's. The one part I can vividly remember is people putting on goofy jumpsuits, climbing into a huge "astrodome" in front of thousands of people and floating into the air until they were vaporized. The gist was that the crowds and the participants all thought that being vaporized was some sort of "crossing over" event, if I remember correctly it was a bad bad thing.
Any help is really appreciated!

Sounds very much like Logans Run (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074812/)
Hope this helps.

I'd forgotten how bad that "film?" was.Even Peter Ustinov looked awkward with his cameo performance.I'd forgotten Farah Fawcett (ex Majors) was also in it,wanting a face change,hair-do,or acting guidance,or something.Michael York.Oh dear.Makes the whole film laughable. The bit where they all explode after hitting the dome ceiling, was the best bit. They all should have been obliterated.Film over.

So it sounds like both of you think this was Logans Run? All I remember was the idiots in the jumpsuits floating to the ceiling in the dome (or whatever it was) and exploding into balls of sparks with everyone cheering wildly.

I here hollywood is trying to put together a remake of this movie, but with the age set to 21 instead at the original 30.

A new Logan's Run now that would be awesome! I actually went and rented the movie a couple of weeks ago, I was stunned, it was good. Who is talking about remaking it? That is something that I would follow.
Thanks again, Pat

Logan's Run definitely! The main female character was played by an english actress who was also in "An American Werewolf in London". Can't recall her name though. Yeah, this movie is dated but still an interesting concept that could be remade well if someone were to put some thought in it. Always bothered me that no one seemed to realize that there was not a single person older than 30 yrs old! Did these people lose their common sense!
Maybe we should leave this one alone!
