I have a Windchaser oscillating wall fan that I mistakenly mounted above a heater. I fear it became too warn because it quit. Nothing on the plastic cast melted or burned. I took the back off and found a capacitor "CBB61 3uf +/-5% 250 vAC 50/60 Hz Max Temp +70C". I am wondering if the is the problem? The motor appears to me a brushless AC motor and I could not find any obvious signs of damage.

Replace capacitor, will quickly determine if the problem. Verify power or speed switch is functioning correctly.

To test capacitor with multimeter;

Disconnect wires to capacitor;
Turn multimeter to ohms
Touch a lead from multimeter to each terminal of capacitor.
Reverse leads and again touch to capacitor terminals.
If capacitor is good the needle will momentarily show current flow.

Does the capacitor show any signs of damage?
