My husband earned some income flight instructing for a man who didn't withhold or supply any 1099 or w2 forms. What do we do to remain legal? I usually have filed taxes using tubotax, will I still be able to use that?

Thank you for any advice.

It isn't illegal to receive money (under the table) for services, it just has to be reported the normal way and the IRS determines what taxes has to be paid on it. What is illegal is taking money and not reporting it.

My son did some contract work last year and was paid with cheques without deductions. He has kept his pay stubs and will report that income as it was received, on his income tax.

All you do is report it as other income,

If the amount earned exceeded $400, then your husband has to file Schedule C to report the income and the expenses associated with earning that income.

He may also have to complete Schedule SE to calculate self-employment taxes.

If it is below $400, then report it on Line #21 of Form 1040 as "Other income".
