Hi I am going to be marrying and American in April. I am Candian and live in Canada,can you please tell me if he has to apply for any type of visa visitors visa, etc. before coming here. We plan to reside here in Canada and for him not to return to the USA. I am a little confused about the process Thank you.:confused:

It will be moderately easier for your spouse to live and work in Canada and if you are going to arrange this for April I suggest you start absolutely now. Arrangements for this are too numerous to mention so I suggest you call the Canadian Consulate, let them know what you and your fiancé intend to do and have them send you the information or give you a website to access so you may start the procedure before April.

He has to apply for permanent residence, it costs about $2000 once you add up all the required documents and fees and take about 9 months to a year to get. During that time he will have to leave Canada every 6 months.

US citizens don't need a visitor's visa, they can stay 6 months automatically but it would be a good idea to give him a letter addressed to customs saying you will cover all his expenses while he is in Canada.
