I need to replace about 10 f galvanized pipe from water meter,can I use different pipe like pvc .what kind? Than you :( :( :(

Yes, PVC can be used for main supply unless local code prohibits. If this is just one length of a longer line that has developed a leak, you should replace the entire line. It won't be long before other leaks will develop in other places.

PVC is for drains not potable water. Use CPVC.

It's not often I get to correct Ballengerb, he puts up such great answers but he's off on this one. ALL of our water service lines from the meter to the house are PVC. If the house is piped in plastic then PVC's acceptable for cold while the hot water's piped with CPVC. However, in practice most plumbers use CPVC through out the house. Sorry Bob! Tom

Get with the times, Tom -- Most Plumbers nowadays recognize CPVC for the inferior product that it is and use PEX from meter to fixture.

Guess that's what happens when you're been retired for 20 years. Ya lose track of the newest developments. We're still piping remodels with PVC and CPVC down here, but what do we kinow? We're just a little back woods vacation spot. Thanks for the correction. Tom
