Help! I would like to fix this myself! My electric dryer is heating, but not drying my clothes. My lint trap is always clean every time I check it- which is weird because usually it needs to be cleaned between loads! When I open my dryer door (my dryer keeps going even when I open the door- the little thing is broken) I can actually see a red glow so I know it is getting hot in there! For a while my husband and I have been noticing the machine getting significantly louder- a kind of whirring noise.

Dryers have 3 functions, they heat, the drum turns, and air circulates. Check for a fan that is no longer turning or turning too slowly. Its motor may be separate from the one that turns the drum. There should be a stream of air coming out the vent. The warm air comes in a small grill in the drum, through the drum and your clothes, and out through the lint screen to the vent. If it is still making noise, follow the noise to it.

I just checked my vent to where the lint is collected. I don't seem to be feeling much air coming out. I disconnected the tube (or whatever it is called) from the machine to the wall & cleaned a little lint out of there. What should be my next step in diagnosing the problem? The drum turns, it heats up.

Check around the heating element. There has to be a fan before it to drive the air through the dryer.
