I am working but my spouse is house wife and she never worked in year 2007. I am confused on few things:
1. Should I file as Joint or Single?
(She has valid SSN)

If Joint then:
1. What should be occupation shown in her personal information section.
2. She don't have a W2 form as she has no employer. In that case do I still need to provide her income details as "0" somewhere?
3. Is it OK if I just fill only my w2 form and do not fill her form.

I am trying to file taxes through TurboTax and thus I am stuck here.

File joint and claim her as dependent, and there is a section where you can select homemaker as profession.

You can not file ssingle if you are married

1. why put anything ?
2. no
3. what "her" form, if she did not work, she did not get a W2 and you use the same IRS form on a joint return

And I will be blunt, if you don't know these simple things ( and turbo tax asks you these questions to work this out.
But if you don't know this MInimum amout of knowledge you have no business doing your own taxes. Hire someoen to do them for you.

CGregory:

The wife is NOT a dependent; she is a co-filer.

Mr. Gupta:

Fr Chuck has a point; you are asking very basic questions here.

Perhaps your grasp of the English language is insufficient to properly use TurboTax, or perhaps tax work is JUST NOT YOUR THING!

In any event, you need to shut it down and go see a competent tax professional. Make sure the person you use has experience working with foreign nationals like yourself.

Consider the fee you pay him as insurance against filing incorrectly, because what you do NOT know WILL HURT YOU when it comes to taxes in the U.S.
