Hi, I am new to the site, but I am glad I found it. I purchased this house back in July of '07. Just started using the heat a month or so ago. Lately with the weather colder outside, I've noticed that the heat just is not as warm as I would like. My last months bill was more than double the previous months. I just walked around the house and noticed that the a/c-heat pump unit has ice on the inside of the vents and a smaller amount of ice on the outside of the unit around the vents. I'm no brain surgeon, but I'm sure that should not be like that. I have a home warranty and want to know (for sure) that I indeed do have a problem and what might be the issue. Thanks

Could be the defrost thermostat/timer on the outside unit is defective.
Could be low on refrigerant.
Could be defrost sensor outside.

Could be other items but I would check that first.
