I have a question about greenies. My dog has the worst breath and my aunt gave us a couple of greenies. This seems like the only thing that works. I've tried biscuits and brushing her teeth, but nothing really works.

When I attempted to buy them online last night, I saw sites stating how dangerous greenies are. I researched some more about the issue and found that this is confirmed by many other sites, including many posts from this forum.

Today, I tried to find something at the pet store to help her breath and the sales lady suggested greenies. I told her about the research I did and she said that they changed their formula and other stuff; now, it's a lot better.

Does anyone know if the new greenies are better? Or, is it still very dangerous? Is there any other suggestions on how to make her breath better?

Thanks!

I don't give my dogs any consumable treats. The dog guide school has long forbidden their puppy raisers to give rawhide, and has extended that to pigs' ears and other such. They have never said anything about Greenies or the consumable Nylabones.

The big problem with Greenies and any other consumable chew is that they can quickly be gnawed down to just the wrong size to be gulped down and choked on or block the digestive tract. I don't see how a new formula could change that.

Regular Nylabones or even the supper tough Galileos eventually will be gnawed down to a dangerous size too. Kongs are not indestructible either. When they start cracking, they have to go.

Feeding a dry chow and little else has always kept my dogs' breath at least tolerable. At 14 Aster is becoming a problem. Perhaps I will invest in having the vet clean her teeth.

You might try some of the nubby textured Flexibones or Gumibones. Some dogs will destroy them too quickly too.
