I tried to look up the answer, but the question I thought might give me the answer, would not load. My question is I have an older hunter fan. Yesterday the light kit fell off and left some wires still connected and some not. It has 2 white wires coming from the fan,one from the light kit.It has one black wire coming from the fan and one black wire from the light kit. It also has one black wire with a white stripe down it coming from the fan,but it appears that wire has never been connected and it has something to do with putting in a wall switch. My fan has pull chains for it's switches.
My question is... what do I connect that second white wire coming from the fan to? It appears to have been connected to something in the past. I have connected the white wire to the white wire it was attached to,and the two black wires... the light works, but the fan does not. Where to I connect the remaining white wire? And will connecting this remaining white wire make my fan work again? I thank you ahead of time for your time and effort in helping me with this problem.

Send me a picture and I can clarify for sure.. . But theoretically all white wires should be connected together.

Light kit on left --->Ceiling fan circuit , type 1

Neutral comes through the fan and ties to the three neutrals on the lights

Positive comes through the fan and ties to the three power legs on the lights

Ceiling Fand wiring Diagrams (http://www.hurontel.on.ca/~taitg/pages/cfan.html)

If you don't need lights -- just put wirenuts on wires and tuck them in enclosure

Guessing that white/black stripe was separate neutral for wall switched light

Did the wiring work? If not, as I said, send me a picture I'll let you know for sure.

:) Yes,Ceilingfanrepair,I got it to all work. Thank you very much. :) I was scared to hook up that third white wire since I had no clue where it had come from. Down here in Louisiana,we really need our fans, even in the winter. It moves the heated air from my wood stove and keeps the whole house warm. Thanks again!
