Hi,

My status for the year 2007 was as follows:
Jan 07 - July 07 - F1
August 07 - Oct 07 - OPT
NOVEMBER - OPT Status (no job- hence no pay)
Dec 07 - HIB

So, what forms am I supposed to fill out this year
I would normally do only the 1040NREZ and 8843. I think I am now considered as being a resident (since I came to the US in Aug 02)
Can I claim tax exemption (as per treaty with India). Can I ask a refund for the SS and Medicare charges taken off my paychek when on OPT visa.
And finally if I do go to the H&R Block.. any idea how much it would cost me to get my taxes done through them ?
Thanks in advance for you replies !

You have exceeded the five-year exemption for F-1 student, so, for 2007, you must file as a resident alien, filing Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ.

Since you were a resident alien for 2007, you WERE liable for Social Security and Medicare taxes, so no refund is due.

The charges for H&R Block vary from office to office. Shop around. Also, check out the website link below.

You will file resident tax return. Since you are not excluding days of F1 from residency, form 8843 may not be required.

Form 8843 is definitely NOT required if you file as a resident alien.
