My Carrier Furnace Igniter glows but the valve won't turn the gas on. I have discovered that the relay switch on the top of the valve has a bad connection to the pins (2 each) on the two solenoids. I can loosen this and slide up and down several times and it will work for awhile. My problem is that I can not find this part without buying the whole assembly. Can anyone help?

If I understand you correctly, I think you might have better luck asking for the coil for a gas valve. Unfortunately, quite often, things are only available as a whole assembly. Of course changing the whole thing means messing with the pipe work.

I have been fighting this problem for about a year. When I first discovered the part about loosening the relay and sliding the connector up and down, it worked for at least 9 months (summer included). I have since gotten it to work sometimes several days, weeks, or just a few cycles. I did have a similar problem with my dryer. The coil tested OK when cold, but not when it had cycled once. This may be the problem I am now facing, but why would it work sometimes after cycling? I guess I am ready to order a new valve and yes, I know about the piping. Thanks for your help.

I am not quite sure why some electrical things near the end of their life work cold, but not hot. May have to do with the carbonizing of the insulation from over heating.
