We moved into our house about a year and a half ago and when we first moved here everything in the bathroom was fine. Now when we flush the toilet it doesn't want to go down all the time. Let me explain it this way, One time it will go down next time it won't, So we will plunge it and then it will work for about 3 flushes then it clogs again and we have to plunge it again. In between plunges it works fine no problems. And then after about the third time of flushing it then it clogs again and doesn't want to go down. I tried putting some stuff down the toilet to unclog it and when I did we could smell the nasty smell:eek: , in our kitchen. (there is a drainage in the floor of our utility room) cause we have no basement. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem?

Any chance something fell into the toilet... say some lipstick, a q-tip, a bobbie pin (dating myself!. do they still even make bobbie pins?))... maybe a small toy..

You have described a circumstance I have seen quite a few times... always clogged with something real small.

If this is the case, could try to use a closet auger to try to pull back the small object... OR better yet (so you don't PUSH the item down the drain line) you can lift the toilet and actually look into the outlet of the toilet and see if you can see what it is that is causing the issue. The culprit is usually at the outlet of the toilet if you find as you have that toilet clogs only every 3 or 4 flushes.

Hey, let us know how you make out!

MASS may be on the right track. I found an concentrated orange juice lid in a toilet, it made the most perfect little flapper that could open and close at will. Try the auger first but pulling the toilet may still need to be done if the mystery continues.
