With two DUIs, can a person still become a federal agent or cop? Long term goal is a federal agent and becoming a cop is a foot in the door.

Two driving under the influence is not a good start for any career in the federal bureau or being a cop. Why two, were you trying to perfect the experience or just didn't care ?
I think you already have a reputation in the courts.

Cop yes, but I'm not too sure about a federal agent. You'll have to check with the police force you want to join as each policy varies from state to state, county to county, city to city. Sometimes it's 3 or 5 years clean record. I know that if you wanted to be a US Federal Marshall, no, no, and more no as they are very strict. FBI a bit better but not if there is a drug charge.

1. What level of federal agent, border patrol, postal inspector, FBI and if FBI a field agent, and about 20 other federal police officer ratings. Including Federal Reserve Bank police officers, Air Marshal, Washington DC police and so on.
The DUI will be a problem, the further back it is, the better, if it was this year, forget it for a whie, if it was 10 years ago, not that bad.
But with that said, a lot of Federal agents are hired right out of college, so one has to remember that if you want to be with the feds you will need a BS at least and a masters is better, for the FBI even a law degree or a CPA degree is stlll some of the preferred degrees.
A DUI may stop you esp 2 in some of the police departments , esp larger city, but there will always be some police departments that you could most liekly get a start with.
You best bet, make sure you have your education in place, make sure you have your money in order, no bad debts, high credit score, and the DUI are at least 7 years old.

Are you for real buddy my god! Do you understand how dui is looked on these days.
I hope for the sake of all the children in this world that you don't drink and drive now!!
I don't think you are right for a job in Law if you so blatenly did not care for the people that live in this world around you. The profile for a cop is one who regards society!!
I am a funeral director and I can not tell you what it feels like to walk behind a casket with a 30 old male or female who just started a family and won't see there 5 year olds birthday because some like you hit them for 5 drinks and a ride home!
Or the 4 year old on my prep table that has to have a closed casket because the face of someone's beloved angle is unrecognizable. What if it were your child. If you can feel true shame for your dui charges then maybe try military and redeem your shameful behaver

Actually the idea of the military is not a bad idea. As long as you have done all your probation from the DUI. The chances of getting hired by a police department increases greatly with a tour or duty in the miliatry, esp if you are in the army in a combat position or in some level of military police.
Not this is not a hit on the police by any means, but if you have a drinking problem you may want to consider the carrer, police officers have a higher level of drinking problems than many other professions so if you have not solved that problem then the stress of the job and the issues of the job can add to your problems.
I am of course assuming you understand the error of your ways and do wish to change and pay society back by a carrer like this

Yes, I got the hint of 'being non judgmental' from ms. judykaytee's agreement but I can't help losing patience with drivers who DUI once, let alone twice and some just keep on doing it until they kill someone. That's why we have ride programmes here in Ontario set up on on ramps to the 40l; they are caught easily before they do any harm.
I don't care how long he waits for his charges to run out (is that too judgmental). I would not like to think anyone like that would be hired by a law enforcement agency under any capacity, and not even a desk job.

I serve the common man as a firefighter. In my life I have had some issues with alcohol. I have in fact have had 2 DUIs. I go to treatment everyday of my life for it. That does not mean that I would not give my life to save someone else's. Good people develop alcohol and drug issues. That does not mean they are any less or more capable of being able to save life and be productive members of society.
Just because someone has experienced addiction does not mean they are any more or less capable of serving the public good.
Get rid of the single minded points of view!!

I am in the Military, have served as a Fire Fighter, and have risked my own life for someone else more times than most human beings would ever think to do in a lifetime, let alone actually do, and I am only 25. I have issues with alcohol and have been charged with 2 DUI's, one of which was reduced to reckless driving. There are thousands of amazing human beings in this world that would lay down their life or give everything they have for another person or a great enough cause who battle with drug/alcohol addictions. People use these things to cope with the stress they have to deal with keeping people safe, such as some of the very judgmental people in here. No one is perfect. To degrade and judge someone you've never met or know anything about shows a low level of maturity, self-respect, compassion, and even confidence. Luckily people like that are in the 99% that will never take the risk of serving in the military or go into a federal service where they would be protecting people and defending their rights. I, along with others I work with and serve as cops/military/fire fighters, have saved more lives in a young career than the number of most peoples' friends list on FB. I bet that you kind of people have issues in your relationships in life due to issues with trust, forgiveness, compassion, maturity, and holier than thou complexes... but that might just be the judgmental side of me which I usually tuck away everyday so I can do my job, because if I had to know most the people I protect everyday personally I probably wouldn't be in this field.

I am 33 soon to be 34. I got out of the Marines in 2005 and then racked up 3 DUI's in 13 months. I am now majoring in criminal justice and want to be a US Marshal. I don't have a problem with alcohol, I had a problem with adjusting after combat. My last DUI was 6 1/2 years ago and I haven't had an incident since. Aside form my DUI's, I am a perfect candidate. I am an honorably discharged Infantry Marine with a purple heart and various outher combat decorations and I would be very surprised if I were to go up against another candidate that has the athletic ability I have. I am an honor student and a superb marksman. If I am turned down because mistakes I made that I cannot change, then I will go on to get my law degree and go after cops that screw up on the job.

Some people change. Dui stays on record for 99 years. You can't even outlive your mistakes or change as a person. Some things are situational and not symptomatic. He asked a question not for your psychological work up.
Yes you can become a cop it depends on which states though. And I'm sure if you have a prestine record as a cop and take necessary steps to become an agent that won't effect your career advancement.
I come from a family of law enforcement and for you to think they aren't drinkers? Hahahahahha. These people see the worst of the worst.
