Hi,

This is my first time here. I hope someone can help me. My Rheem Home A/C compressor died 6 months before my 10-year warranty expired. I had it replaced and then about a month later my condenser fan motor died. The guy who replaced it installed a Rheem compatible but I just noticed that the speed and amperage is different.

I've noticed that my Miami home gets cooled down a lot faster but the humidity remains between 45 to 50 % in the house. I use to be around 37 %. Anyway, I'm sure my electricity bill will go down, but I'm not liking the humidity.

Here are the specs:

OLD Condenser Fan Motor:

Emerson / Model #KA55HXPAM-7255
Volts 208 - 230
HP - 1/10
RPM - 825
HZ - 60
Amp - .75
PH - 1
PT-No. 51-21276-02

NEW Condenser Fan Motor:

A.O. Smith / Model #ORM 10206 (F48K58A01)
Volts 208-230
HP - 1/5
RPM - 1075
HZ - 60
Amp - 1.3
PH - 1
PT-No. 51-23055-11 (63382) OEM Direct Replacement Rheem

Am I right to notice this difference? By the way, my Rheem Unit Model #024JA (2 ton, 12.4 seer, my home is 600 s.f.)

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Ziggy322

2 ton for 600 sq ft huh. I hope you live in the deep south with poor insulation.

Yes that motor is over rated (to big). It will be loud, use more energy, and flood the condenser. Which will require more refrigerant to keep the head pressure up and thusly the suction pressure, even with a TXV type metering device.

To Northern Heat,

Thanks for your quick reply. My installation receipt from 10 years ago says 2 tons, but I really believe it's 1.5 tons. How do I confirm this?

How would you approach my repairman; he thinks he knows everything? What motor should I tell him he should have used that's in the market now?

Thanks
