If you have started working and start paying into your student loans. Then for some reason you stopped paying for your student loans while you still are working. It is more then likely they will. Are you in Canada or the US? In Canada they will.

I haven't made any payment on it at all and I'm not working now but I am in the us virginia actually but do you think they will garnish my taxes? Also when do I receive my taxes I usually have them by the middle of the month because I know they have until jan 31st but I'm getting scarred that I'm not going to get them at all

I really don't know too much about the tax system in the US. But if your not working I can't see them garnishing your tax return. I hope there are others that have been in your shoes to answer and help you out on this matter. I wish you the best.

If you are NOT working, contact the holder of your student loan. They can and probably WILL put your loan on deferment until you get back to work.

However, if you fail to take any action, then, yes, they CAN and probably WILL confiscate your tax refund to help satisfy your student loan debt.

ATE is right. I mean, you will still get your W-2's so that you can file your tax return, but he's right that you need to contact the holder of your student loan to see if you can get it deferred. It usually depends on how long you've been out of school and not paying on your student loans. If it is a federal student loan, and you have defaulted on any payment arrangements that you have already made, then yes, the IRS will withhold any refund from your tax return that you may be due, to pay on the student loans. But you still have to file a tax return.

Oh, yes, Mobea is correct!

If I did not make that clear, you MUST file the tax return even if it means that the refund will be confiscated.

Ok, your work place sends you your W2, not the government, so whoever you worked for during the past year will send you the W2. If you have not gotten it after Jan 31, you need to contact them.

You will then need to file your taxes. It is hard to say about if they will garnish your return or not, a lot depends on how behind you are.
But it is not unusual for them to be attached if you have not been paying properly.
You need to talk with the lender, a student loan will not go away and not paying on it, only makes it a lot worst.
