My gas heater pilot is lit, and it sounds like the heater is starting to turn on, but the blower never comes on. I think that the pilot isn't lighting the burners buy I really don't know much about how it works. Any ideas?

Can you see the pilot light and is it lighted for sure? If you can see the pilot youshould also be able to see and hear the burner fire up when there is a call for heat. Do you hear the flame?

Do you know what a thermocouple looks like and is there one sticking into the pilot flame?

I know what it is but I would have to check if there is one sticking into the flame. Is there any other info I should try and get? I'm a complete novice

Most gas unit with a pilot light also have a thermocouple. It needs to be right in the flame to wor and even then they need replacing once in a while. Cheap at any hardware store, they are pretty much universal. If the thermocouple is working you need to locate the wires from the therostat and tell me what colr each wire is at the panel of the furnace. I could tell you how to short out the stat and bypass it.

OK I will check on that tonight when I get out of work. I probably won't be able to post until tomorrow.

Thanks so far!

Just keep adding onto this original post. That way someone who may jump in can read the whole background of the issue. I should be around.
