well I think what I'm doing is called simplifing square roots. I understand the easy problems like the square root of 50 is 5 square roots of 2. but how would u do this problem?

the square root of 12x cubed times the square root of 8xy to the 7th...

any little bit of help would be very nice!! =]

(12x^3)^(1/2)*(8xy^7)^(1/2)

It will be a lot easier to convert the square roots to raising to the (1/2) power. Then use the laws of exponents.
