I have a 2 year old house and have been hanging my shower towel on a hook that is against a wall since I've lived in the house. Now, it seems there is a small amount of mold on the wall where the towel has been hanging. Right now it's just a dark discoloring. My question is, is this most likely mold and if so how should I go about getting rid of it? Thank you!

Some things to Know: The wall is painted with a flat paint; the fan runs all day after a shower.

Follow up question: If this is mold should there be concern that it is inside the drywall?

Try hanging the towel over the shower curtain rod to dry in the future. Get rid of the mold ASAP before it gets really entrenched into your home. Or get a dehumidifier and keep it near the open bathroom door and turn it on to a low setting that would automatically come on and off after you bathe. Keeping a fan on seems to be drawing cool moist air into your bathroom and not getting rid of the humidity problem.

You don't need to replace sheet rock if the mildew is from a towel. Use a mildewcide or a bleach/ water mix 1:4. Allow to soak and then rinse. Re p[ainting may be needed.
