Setup: We have one well pump, two houses, both 30 years old. Well has plenty of water, and pump is well below the water table. Pressure is OK. Pump is new, but air in pipes issue preceded its recent replacement. There is a pressure tank at the well, kept at 40-60 psi,and another at the higher house. Both houses have sporadic bursts of air that come out from faucets and showers, causing irregularity in temperature, startling, and sometimes undesired splash outside the basin. The higher house with the second tank has the problem worse.

Where does the air get in? Is it the pressure tank? Where else? If air gets in, must not water get out as well, but there is no leak, and the pump and standpipe were recently replaced.

Does one need to bleed and reset the pressure tank?
