I finally called a plumber. He asked where the roaring was most prevalent and I showed I indicated it was in the basement bathroom. He said there was probably a washer in the toilet that was weak and vibrating. He changed the insides of the toilet tank and we had no roaring last night! Sweet, peaceful sleep.

Maybe if you had answered my original question we could have saved you the service call.
