:(

I am 15 and I live in Georgia and I wish to emancipate myself or move out of my house and live somewhere else. I wish to live with my sister.I need to know the age I can leave and is it okay to live with a sister or does it have to be a mom, dad, or granparent. Please, I need answers. I turn 16 soon and I need to leave as soon as possible.

"To get emancipated, you will need to prove:
1. You are mature enough to manage your own affairs. This is demonstrated by things like a clean criminal record, good grades etc.
2. You can support yourself financially. You will need to show income and anticipated expenses. It is HIGHLY unlikely you have the income to rent an apartment, pay all utilities and put food on your table.
3. That your welfare is better served by not being with your parents. Hating mom's rules will not meet this criteria.
4. That there are no other reasonable solutions to the issues at home.

You will need to hire a lawyer to get you though the process.

You would need to file in a court that has jurisdiction over your parents or custodial parent if you do not live with."

This is an answer to a question similar to yours on another forum. I thought it fit. The person asking the question was 17 though.

May I ask why you want to be emancipated?

You can not move out in Ga till you are 17, without permission of your parents or a court order to allow you to.

With that said, now what explains the process of doing it before.
But there has to be a good reason, not just you are unhappy.

What you might be able to do is have your sister petition in Family Court to become your legal guardian.
