Being part of the same cheerleading group is great. He might be just encouraging you to do your best, which is what good groups do with each other.
You can talk with him, be honest, and see if he says he likes you a lot.
You will never know for sure, unless you talk with him. Hugging you is a good sign that he does like you. Does he hug any of the others? If not, he probably does like you, and if you like him, talk with him.

As another answer stated you are all part of a group and he could be cheering you on. Maybe he does like you but how will you know for sure if you do not approach him?

Try to say hi to him and start a conversation and see where that goes. Remember to be yourself and relax, it will make him feel more comfortable. There's a good chance that he likes you, but maybe he's too shy to make the first move. If he is very attentive to what you are saying, he probably likes you.

It sounds like he does. Do you ever have a chance to see him when not in your cheerleading element? Try talking to him casually or give him a call. He'll probably appreciate it and you'll probably find that the two of you "click" quite naturally.
