I heard about this vaccine that is promoted in my school. Is it only for sexually active women? I am 18 and still a virgin. Is Gardasil for me? How can you get infected with hpv if you're not sexually active? Thanks

Why isn't it for older women too (26+)?

We have a nurse on here when she gets on she should be able to answer your questions. Check back in tomorrow if she doesn't get on today. I have read the information sheet and the doctor, my daughter and I decided that she will be getting the vaccine at her next physical.

Gardasil is a great vaccine for sexually active women as well as non-sexually active women.

It is given between the ages of 12 - 26. It is a series of 3 injections that will prevent HPV transmission.

If the gal is not sexually active that is even better and will help prevent HPV once she does become pregnant. It is only a matter of time before this is a required vaccine here in the US.

Why isn't Gardasil for men too?

Because men cannot get cervical cancer. This vaccine prevents cervical cancer that is transmitted via HPV.

But they can still get the infected with the virus, yet not get cancer, right?

They can be infected with HPV, but it is us women who get cervical cancer. They can't get cervical cancer because men don't have a cervix. This vaccine prevents cervical cancer in us women.
