Ask a different doctor. What are the risks of removing it at this point in her life as opposed to later in life. Will it go away on its own?

Is the lump moveable? Meaning, if you press on it, will it kind of slide around under the skin? If so, it is likely a lipoma, which is a clump of fat that is completely harmless. They are quite common on the back, and do not need to be removed unless it is painful.

However, in a young child, a lump like that may be something else, such as a clump of blood vessels called a hemangioma. These almost always go away on their own before the child is 5 years old, and removing them can be dangerous due to the risk of bleeding. Trust your pediatrician, but ask him or her what he/she thinks the lump is.
