We want to relocate clothes down washer to basement. Water supply and electricity is no problem. However, the existing 2 inch copper waste pipe runs along side the rim joist at 7 ft above the floor then into the main cast iron waste pipe. Will the washer's pump be strong enough to pump up that 7 ft height to the copper waste pipe or do I have to bust into the cast iron main waste pipe to drain the washer? Thanks.

There's no doubt in my mind that today's more powerful washer pumps will pump a 7 foot head. However, there will have to be modifications. You will have to cut into the copper waste line with a wye or combination wye and eighth bend cocked on a 45 degree angle, line itout with a street 45 and then a AAV,( air admittance valve to vent) and then a trap, raiser and a compression fittong to make it a closed system. You will also have to install a hose check valve on the outlet of the washer to prevent all the dirty water in the hose from draining back on your clean wash after the pump shuts down.
