My boyfriend and I have been together for 8 yrs and in 2004 I became pregnant with another mans child. We did not think this other man was the child's father, therefore when my son was born my boyfriend signed the acknowledgment of paternity, and the baby took his last name. A few months ago the man decided to petition the court for a DNA test, and it was proven the other man was the actual father. After the court ordered support and after he finally realized I would never be with him, he has decided to sign over his rights to my boyfriend... who I will be married to in January. Now there were certain papers that we were supossed to file so the court could report the DNA results to Vital Statistics that would take my boyfriend off the birth certificate and put the biological father on it and neither me or the actual father have filed these papers yet. My question is, is it possible for the biological father to sign papers to relinquish his rights and leave everything else that makes my boyfriend the legal father as is without having to go through expensive adoption proccedings with my boyfriend?
