Is there a draft where the freezer air is to blow into the frige part? Check the frige door gasket, make sure the seal is tight.

Opening an old post with same issue.
Noticed fridge side getting warmer. Mine is a KitchenAid side by side probably very close to the same model as the OP.
When looking into the freezer interior vents, I see the coils all iced up. Is this most likely my problem?
I've switched it off for 12hrs now, but ice is still in there.
Should I just continue to monitor it this way? And give it another go?
I know humidity this time of year can contribute to this, but shouldn't it self defrost? Or maybe it just can't keep up with it? This unit is 6yrs old.

Working fine for a week now. I took the freezer compartment completely apart to expose the evaporator.
It was still full of ice after the 12hrs I had it off. Put a fan on it and let it melt.
After drying everything and reassembly, good to go.
Until next time. Hope this helps someone. Saves on a service call.

There are two possible causes: (1) the condenser coils under the unit are dirty and need washing off as well as cleaning all dirt from under unit.(Remove rear cover to clean coils and replace when done. Unplug unit when cleaning.),(2)There is a problem with the defrost system. The defrost terminator, defrost heater, or timer could be bad. You have to test with an ohm meter and a volt meter to know what is bad. Remove cover to freezer coils and see if there is ice blocking the air ducts to refrigerator, if so you have a problem. The first thing I would do is to clean the coils very well under unit and then see how it works. Removing the cover to freezer coils is an easy job that will tell you what you need to do after that.
